]]>And guess what? We're kicking off 2024 with a double dose of awesome by teaming up with Renew and Helen Honey's – two fantastic groups that are making waves in their own unique ways.
Let's start with Renew! Picture this: low-cost clothing and home goods making their way into the hearts and homes of the lovely people of Southern Illinois. And when you snag something from Renew, your contribution circles right back into our communities, spreading warmth and cheer where it's needed most!
Now, onto Helen Honey's! Back in 2000, Verna and her sister embarked on a beautiful journey by opening a day center for individuals with disabilities. What started with just five clients grew into an incredible family of 45-plus clients, all with dreams bigger than the sky!
Verna, a force of nature, set her sights on creating a vocational day center. Together with her unstoppable team, they scoured every nook and cranny of Illinois for that perfect match. And you know what they found? A resale shop! Yep, that's where the treasure trove of Helen Honey's Resale Shop came into play.
Why Helen Honey's, you ask? Well, Verna's mom, the heart and soul of it all, was the inspiration. Her love knew no bounds, and she had this delightful habit of calling everyone "honey." Hence, the clients paid homage to her endearing spirit by naming their haven "Helen Honey's." Talk about a beautiful tribute!
And guess what? You're a superhero in this story too! We're rallying up donations to keep these incredible organizations thriving. Got some gently loved items gathering dust? Bring them on over! We'll make sure they find a new home with Helen Honeys and Renew, spreading joy like confetti.
Oh, and the best part? As a big, heartfelt thank-you for your kindness, you get a sweet deal! Bring your goodies, and in return, enjoy a fabulous 20% off on all regular-priced clothing and shoes. And hold onto your hats because we've got a SALE going on too – totaling a whopping 70% off! How's that for spreading love and style?
Jump on over to our stories to catch a sneak peek of the price drops and join us on this amazing journey of giving back and making our world a little brighter, one sparkle at a time! Let's do this, fam! ✨🌟
]]>"After much thought and planning, I decided to start a small shop in my husband’s hometown of Carterville, Illinois. My father-in-law owned a fine jewelry store, Your Jeweler. The store had a small 300 square foot loft space above the jewelry store area. So I decided to follow in the footsteps of the spa and offer jewelry, handbags and gift items. My little shop was a fun way to interact with hometown customers and offer a little bling to women."
"The Plaza Drive location was for sale and there was uncertainty with the future of the building. It was at this time, that a 3000 square foot location next to Your Jeweler became available. A major remodel was in order, but I decided to accept the challenge. What a great space with 22 foot ceilings and a loft area that would be a work area for staff. A new website, more clothing, adding shoes, and new brands were all in order. What a blessing to have this beautiful space and awesome parking too!"
From the beginning, Jesus Cats has been blessed by God from purchasing the building for only a dollar, to the rapid growth of students and youth joining in bible studies every week. In just a year, GG has drastically transformed the space where Jesus Cats meets into a welcoming and fun environment for the youth of Christopher. This once aging building is now home to 34 classes a month, where Jesus is passionately taught to kids from 3 years old, to 18!At 75 years old GG is at Jesus Cats 7 days a week, while also being significantly involved in the Christopher community.
Her friend saw the hard work she has been putting in to serve her community, and wanted to surprise her with a custom gift to thank her. We were THRILLED when we heard all that GG has been doing and are excited to be a part of this special gift!
GG and Jesus Cats is exactly what is needed in this world, a safe place of hope and encouragement that points others towards the love of Christ.

]]>Trend Report: Denim Down
The influencers and fashion people of the world have spoken (or rather....worn?) and here are the five denim pieces you need for a complete wardrobe.
Gone are the days of the beloved skinny jeans. Here to replace them: Straight Leg Denim.
Not gonna lie, we weren't sure about them at first, but they are here to stay! We have your needs covered! Shop our straight jean styles.
This style needed no convincing of us. You probably already know how we love flares of all sizes. It's no surprise that our 90s wide leg flares and mini flares are some of our best-selling denim ever!
We won't count these as a must-have, but they are still a fave! Look, we get it. Gen Z has spoken and skinny jeans are "out." But the reality is that we aren't ready to box up our skinnies just yet. So if you're like us, we are here for your skinny jean needs too!
Cut-offs, bermudas, and denim shorts of all shapes are a summer staple that will never not be a thing.
Whether you're layering over a dress, a t-shirt, or going full Britney-and-Justin in a Canadian Tuxedo, denim jackets are a must-have in our books. And the funkier they are, the more we love them!
Having a one-piece denim outfit is a go-to for on-the-go girlies and makes trending easy by just adding accessories. You may not need all three, but we totally love them all! Shop women's denim dress, denim jumpsuit and denim overalls.
]]>It's no surprise...sunnies are THE accessory of the moment!
Channeling our inner Hidden Hills Housewife for these sunglasses. The shape is EVERYTHING! Event Gigi agees. Shop the "Rosey" sunglasses, which are only $28.
According to celebrities and influencers, round frames aren't going anywhere. Pair a round frame with a rose-gold tint and you're set for a day in L.A. or a trip to the beach. Shop the "All Aboard" sunglasses under $30.
Thick, black sunnies will never go out of style for one reason: you don't even have to wear makeup and no one will ever know. Shop our favorites called the "Jolene", the "Maverick" and the "Alden."
Want a pair of frames that aren't black but still go with just about anything? Here ya go! Check out The "Hendrix", which is available in a bold olive hue with smoke details.
Whatever style you want to match, we have those sunglasses in stock! Most styles are only $28! Shop women's bold sunglasses at Eccentrics Boutique.

]]>GraceHaven has an onsite boutique designed to support and encourage soon-to-be moms and dads. Parents earn points for going to doctor’s appointments, taking parenting classes, and other activities. These points then allow them to shop at the baby boutique.
This October, for pregnancy and infant loss awareness month, Eccentrics will be donating care packages to GraceHaven for women who have suffered a miscarriage. Stop by Eccentrics to make a donation, or fill out a card to send your support to grieving mothers in our community.
We connected with Sarah Usery at GraceHaven. She offered us wisdom on how to care for yourself, or a friend when grieving the loss of a child.
Sarah is the Director of Operations for Baptist Children's Home & Family Services. She has over 20 years of experience in social service/ministry. Her passion for showing God's love and grace to those who are hurting is a blessing to our community. She lives in Mt. Vernon with her husband of 20 years and her (almost) 13 year old daughter.
In the United States, up to 15% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage.
How to Support a Friend
Let her grieve. The miscarriage is a loss. Anger, sadness and depression are common feelings after a miscarriage. She may also experience confusion, jealousy of other pregnant women, guilt, feelings of failure, or questioning God. All of these feelings are normal.
Allow her to cry and express the above-mentioned feelings. When the grief is fresh and raw, it may not be the right time to say truth to her. She may just need you to sit with her and let her know you are here for her.
Tell her it is not her fault. It is normal for women to wonder if the miscarriage is a result of something they did or did not do.
Help her honor the child when she is ready. Encourage her to think of a way she can honor this child. Writing the child a letter, plant a tree in honor of the child, paint a picture are all examples of ways to do this.
You may offer to help her with some daily household chores or keep other children for a few hours to give her some time alone.
Pray with and for her.
How to care for yourself
Give yourself permission to grieve. Find someone you can talk through your grief with whether that is your spouse or significant other, a family member, friend, pastor or counselor. Know that your spouse/significant other may grieve differently than you do. Keeping communication open is key to working through your grief. Not doing this may leave you "stuck", which can leave you dealing with depression and repressed emotions. If you feel like you might be stuck or do not have someone you trust to talk to, do not hesitate to reach out for professional help from a licensed therapist.
Ask for and receive help. Take time for yourself. Spend time in prayer.
Know that there is hope for healing your broken heart. God will meet you in your brokenness.

I love it when my children are old enough to start thinking about their own birthday theme. However, I was surprised when Elle asked for a "Princess Makeup Party." She was so specific and I was wondering how the heck I would pull that off!
Thankfully we found a great location at Cottonwood Marketplace in West Frankfort, Illinois. Cottonwood hosts private painting parties and was the perfect unique experience for a bunch of little girls. They had canvases with faces ready for the girls to "apply makeup" with paint. They had so much fun making their own princesses look pretty!
My mother-in-law dolled up each girl's hair and completed the new 'do with a tiara. Emma Naeger gave each girl a makeover with makeup and jewels. It was so much fun and truly a little girl's dream come true! Elle was beaming and had the best time. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next year!
Thank you to everyone who made my little princess' day so special!
XO,
Lauren

]]>"Moms are like buttons - they hold everything together!"
This Mother's Day, I see you! Right now when times are feeling out of control, moms really are holding it all together. Mothers have taken on so many extra roles, and our lives look completely different than just a few months ago. I know that we are having to adapt in ways we didn't expect.
]]>This Mother's Day, I see you! Right now when times are feeling out of control, moms really are holding it all together. Mothers have taken on so many extra roles, and our lives look completely different than just a few months ago. I know that we are having to adapt in ways we didn't expect.
Every mom is in a different situation right now. Whether you are an essential worker, working from home, not working because of the pandemic or a stay-at-home mom, we know you are working harder than before. Your roles have expanded to caregiver, teacher and so much more! With routines disrupted, it can feel very disorienting this year. The only comforting idea is knowing that we are not alone. We are all experiencing the same chaos.
The only blessing from this experience is getting the opportunity to assess what is truly important as a mom. Family and health have become even more of a priority than before. With the extra time at home, we have found ways to create our own magical moments in the everyday routine. I hope you are finding time to play during a time of hard work and uncertainty.
At the end of the day, we all know that the most essential job title is mom. So thank you for doing your part in making our world a better place.
Happy Mother's Day!

Lauren

]]>Whew. What a wild ride these past few weeks have been. So much has changed. So much. The world has been turned upside down. It's heartbreaking to hear of the individuals becoming sick or losing their lives. Millions of people have lost their jobs, their businesses and their incomes.
With the Illinois shelter-in-place mandate extending to the end of May, we are in uncharted territory. The small businesses are the backbone of our country, especially at the local level. One of the biggest concerns for our community is if small businesses can survive.
At Eccentrics, I believe the answer is yes. We are fighting for this business, and always brainstorming new and creative ways to engage with you. This is my dream come true, and I will not see it slip away. There have been good days and bad days. It has not been easy and there have definitely been tears. Being a small business owner is not for the faint of heart. So my heart goes out to everyone else in the same shoes. We are connected by this unprecedented experience and I'm cheering you on.
Here's a little recap of what we are doing to let you know we are here for our customers:
We strive to create an environment that is warm, welcoming and full of heart. Our storefront is temporarily closed, but we're bringing the dressing room experience you love right to your home. Whether you have questions about fit or want new looks for your new normal, our stylists are ready and available! Schedule your appointment today.
Since you are not able to come inside the store and personally try on our new arrivals, we are doing it for you. Whether it's by myself or one of our stylists or models, we want to give you even more details on the fit and fabric. It is also our goal to provide outfit inspirations so you can have so many ideas of how to style our favorite items. (Check out our new arrivals.)
It's important that our customers can receive their order in the most convenient way possible. For our local customers, you can choose "in-store pickup" at checkout. We will contact you when your order is ready. When you arrive, just give us a call and we'll bring the purchase to your car. If you are long distance or cannot stop by, you can have your purchased shipped. Any order over $75 gets free shipping. Otherwise, we have a $7 flat-rate shipping fee.
We have increased our online inventory. Before the pandemic, we had smaller gift items that were in-store only. We have photographed and updated our online inventory to reflect what we have in-store. This makes shopping with us much easier.
Eccentrics Boutique has been here before the pandemic, and we will be here after. We may have to change some of our business practices, but we are still here for our customers. Every online order we receive during this time lifts our spirits. You give us hope that we will make it through.
So please know that I value you and your support.

Lauren

As someone who LOVES staying at home, I'm not exaggerating when I say I often daydream of a life where I never have to leave the house. In this dream life, my days would consist of waking up in my home in the middle of the woods, throwing on my comfiest outfit, sipping some coffee and peering outside my giant windows while I watch the morning light peek through the mountain tops. Then, I would spend my day writing and creating art. Perhaps working out in the comfort of my own home. Going for walks. Being with my family. Playing with my dog. What a dream!
You can imagine, when the world was forced to stay at home, I was quite literally living the dream (minus the house with giant windows in the mountains, still working on that one). I already worked from home part of the time, so I was more than ready to hunker down, really lean into this situation and use this time to be insanely productive. But not without using the "work from home systems" I have been developing the past couple of years.
Here are my top three tips for increasing your productivity while working from home:
I know it seems convenient for a boutique to be telling you that looking fancy while working from home increases productivity, but it's TRUE!!! Research says it and I feel it. Anytime I do a little something to myself in the morning, I instantly feel a shift in my mindset. It also helps me separate work from leisure. Because when I'm dressed, I'm working. And when I'm in sweats, I'm chilling at home. When work and home are in the same place, it's good to have some things that separate the two. Now, buying a new outfit is a bonus. Because online shopping is super fun and it gets you excited about something you would do in your regular routine that you're maybe not doing as much anymore... shopping and getting dolled up.
Check out this article on Forbes for some research backed proof that wearing that new outfit at home, could help you get more done.
When working from home, it can feel like the dream to work from the couch or from your bed. But please, never do this. One of the best ways to increase productivity is again, putting some sort of separation between work and home, even though you're working from home. Which means setting up a special place to work. Whether that is at the kitchen table, a nook in the corner of your living room or an actual desk, make a space that is solely dedicated to work. Sitting in a proper chair can also improve posture which also can have a direct impact on productivity. Basically, just create a space for you to work so that you can create those boundaries that are so important when working from home.
Starting first thing in the morning, create a routine from the second you get out of bed. Start your day off with something focused on you. Do yoga, meditate, go for a walk, exercise, journal, whatever it is... do something that is related to caring for yourself. Develop a morning routine and stick with it strictly.
Then, create a routine for your daily work schedule. Whatever that may look like for you, make sure it includes breaks. Every 90 minutes or so, take a short 5-10 minute break to walk, meditate, eat something, etc. This is shown to increase productivity dramatically.
Set a time to begin and end work and STICK TO IT. That means truly putting away your devices after a work day at the time you say you are going to. Put away that laptop, phone, notebook, etc. and separate yourself from work. Studies show true rest is necessary to improve performance. So actually give yourself time to rest!!!! Here's more information on rest to increase productivity.
And finally, give yourself grace. I always like to mention that. Because we are imperfect beings and we will never be perfect. Try your best to implement some boundaries for yourself and promise to love yourself even if you don't stick with them every single day.
P.S. Check out Tia Lorae's website for details about her business, travels and more.

]]>If anyone told me I would be working from home right now, I would think they were crazy! Yet, here I am. Working from home and keeping my fashion-forward customers informed and excited about the new styles that are in stock.
So I'm going to share my tips for staying stylish when working from home. Just because the office is closed doesn't mean you should now live in the same pair of pajamas five days in a row. I find that my motivation and excitement for the day quickly diminishes if I'm in an uninspired outfit. So let's get started...
Get the look: Women's Snakeskin Print Blouse $58 // Women's Moto Jeggings with Side Zippers $38 // Beaded Bobby Pins $12 // Women's Suede Stacked Blocked Heel Bootie $59 // Kendra Scott Alice Earrings $85
Work-from-home rules are definitely different than office rules. When your boss schedules an impromptu video chat, you want to make sure you're dressed for the part. I recommend to put more effort into looking stylish from the waist up. Then you can pair a cute top with your favorite distressed denim or comfy jogger pants. You can still feel comfortable while looking professional in Spanx leggings, too. Just make sure it's easy to sit cross-legged or feet propped up on the couch.
This is your time to experiment with new outfit combinations and accessories. In a work environment like Eccentrics Boutique, we can play with different combinations all the time. However, I understand some of my customers work in more conservative office environments. This can make you play it safe with outfit choices. So take this opportunity to take a risk on mixing prints and layering jewelry. You just might discover a new style that can transition back into the office.
Variety is the spice of life! Plan out your weekly wardrobe based on different colors and prints. Mondays are wild, so throw on an animal print! Make the middle of the week pop with bright colors on Wednesdays. You earned your stripes come Friday, so bring on the multicolor lines. Having a fun plan can bring lots of joy in your day. Check out all the new clothing arrivals here!
Dust that jewelry off!! I know you are typically rushing around getting the kids ready for school, packing lunches, fixing a quick breakfast for the family, and getting yourself together. How many times did you forget to put on earrings or wear your favorite necklace? This stops today! Jewelry is like the sprinkles on the cupcake. And you need your sprinkles. So whether it's your favorite Kendra Scott necklace or Gorjana earrings, get them out. Wear them. And if you don't have any favorite pieces, we got you. Check out our jewelry selection.
Look, I'm the last person to talk about washing your hair. While everyone was stocking up on toilet paper, I was grabbing all the bottles of dry shampoo. So when the hair starts getting a little on the questionable side, I throw on a cute hat. This changes everything. And you'll confidently be able to run out the front door to check your mail, take a lunch break stroll around the block, and wave at your neighbors with 6 feet of space between you. Check out our hat selection here.
You know the pair. Those shoes you bought because they were so darn cute...but you haven't had the chance to break them in yet. Walk around in them all day at home. You can get them worn and comfy by the time it's safe to go back to your office. And if all of your shoes are broken in, well....now is the time to get some cute new pairs that make your heart happy. Check out the huge online shoe selection!
Take this opportunity to assess your closet. During the everyday grind, we can get in a routine of wearing the same things over and over. This can get boring quick. ]]>Pandemic time is strange. We can't keep track of the days. Thankfully, we've been sharing some ideas with each other on how to have the best days at home. So whether your quaranteam is your family or roommates, here are some of our favorite activities...
Give us some comfort food right now. Between baking bread, cookies, and cobblers, we are treating ourselves with all the good stuff. Jordan has been raving about her favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe and wanted to share with our customers.
1 cup softened butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups flour
1 package of chocolate chips
Preheat oven at 375 degrees. Sift dry ingredients together (salt, baking soda, flour). Cream together butter and sugars, add eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips. Bake 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
In between baking our favorite comfort food, we are fitting in some at-home workouts. Here are some workout resources we recommend:
First, do NOT....under any circumstances....cut yourself bangs. So while you wait for your favorite beauty professional to be back in business, here are some great self-care products you can get at Eccentrics:
Bath Salt Soak $22 // Bath Balms $10
Daily Face Masks (Pack of 5) $14 // 24K Gold Hydrogel Foil Eye Mask $4
See more self-care products in our bath and body collection.
Megan and her roommates are having Wii sports tournaments. Emma and her roommates are having fun playing For the Girls card game.
What are you and your "quaranteam" doing to pass the time? Give us some ideas in the comments below!
]]>Step 1: Cut your flannel into 9.5 inch x 11.5 inch pieces.
Step 2: Surge around the edges.
Step 3: Roll onto existing paper towel roll. Since it’s flannel they’ll stick to one another, so you can store them on your normal paper towel holder!
Wash and reuse!

If you roll out of bed for Easter Sunday in your pajamas and messy bun, you will not feel inspired. Treat this like you would any year before...but with even more effort. Putting your best foot forward really sets the tone for the rest of the day. Here are our favorite picks for Easter outfits this season.
We recommend finding a spot with nice, even lighting. You do not want the sun causing your eyes to squint or have uneven shadows. This can be in front of a large window in your living room, on your front porch or in your garden. If you don't have access to a spot with good lighting, invest in a good ring light!
If your background is a little messy, move a few things around. You want the focus to be on your family. This will ensure you have a photo that is gallery-wall-worthy.
Create balance in your photo composition by forming triangles when you pose your family of three or more. Start with a basic triangle and building additional triangles as you add more family members to the photo. You can utilize structures like stairs, stools, benches, decorative boulders and even tree stumps to get your subjects at the right height.
Since it's a social distancing Easter Sunday, you will need a tripod or supporting structure to keep your phone steady. If you're using a smartphone, you can get a tall smartphone tripod or a tabletop tripod if you're setting the phone on the coffee table or a shelf.
Set the self-timer so you (or your designated family-member photographer) have enough time to hop in the photo. You may have to do this a few times before it's just right. Use burst mode so it will take a quick series of images. There's a reason professional photographers take so many shots to get "the one." So have some patience and be ready to take several before you get the perfect one for your family.
We don't mean yoga-pose flexible...just flexible with expectations. Every family is different. You might have to lower expectations if kids are squirming or babies are crying. And that's okay! It's YOUR family and sometimes the "imperfect" photos are the iconic ones that will last generations. So make it fun and find joy in this crazy time.
This is our favorite part! There are so many photo editing apps out there. Some favorites are Lightroom, VSCO, and Snapseed. Adjust exposure, contrast and whites to get the look you want. Experiment with filters for that extra touch.
Remember that you are capturing a historical moment for your family. Let us pray this is the only Easter Sunday we are quarantined due to a global pandemic. Take the time to get ready, look your best for your family and celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection.

There are so many things to love about fall! The racks at Eccentrics are loaded with wonderful selections to keep us cozy and stylish as we head out to football games, fall festivals, pumpkin patches and apple orchards. Cooler temperatures and shorter days have us feeling just a little cozier and contented in our homes at the end of the day. And who doesn’t love all the autumn-inspired treats – s’mores, pumpkin pie, apple crisp, hot chocolate, pumpkin spice-flavored everything??
These are wonderful “fall feels,” but the greatest treasures can be found when we quietly step away into the outdoors and experience God by seeing his reflection in the beauty of nature. Look up at the vivid blue of the October skies. Breathe deeply of the crisp, refreshing air. Look across the horizons at dawn and dusk for glorious sunrises and sunsets. I love how contemporary Christian artist Chris Tomlin calls the sunrise God’s “love letter in the sky.” Soak up the beauty of the leaves turning colors and watch as they gracefully fall to the ground.
When we take time to meditate on the magnificence of God’s creation, we can’t help but feel His glory, power, and presence. Nourishment and healing for our souls can be found as we are reminded of His awesome love for us. May you have a joy-filled, blessed fall season!
]]>“Cause me to hear your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.” Psalm 143:8
Beginning each day focusing on the love, hope, and peace that can only be found in Jesus is my lifeline. This gives me the strength and direction I need to navigate my daily path.
Thankfulness and counting my blessings are important parts of that time, and my Eccentrics Boutique family is high on that list of blessings. Lauren’s mission statement for the business is strongly grounded in Christian values and principles. I can attest that every single one of my co-workers is a walking, talking example of those values.
Come in and enjoy the friendly, positive atmosphere and check out the new fall styles arriving daily! You will leave feeling blessed by the attitudes and wowed by the marvelous selections available! (Yes, ladies in the “over 50” age group -- that includes US!!)

Here’s our suggestion for ways to have an exciting weekend in our region with your best friends or family:

]]>This is for the girl who loves flowers in her hair. Her smile shines brighter than the sun. Positive vibes are the only vibes she's giving. She doesn't have a plan, but always finds something new and exciting in this world. Her closet is full of loose fit and patterned clothing. Boho-chic just happens and she doesn't have to try.
Throw yourself into a field full of bold, beautiful flowers. Get lost in the explosion of color and forget about everything else. Where is this magical land of stunning stems? Why, at Rendleman Orchards, of course. Their u-pick zinnia flower field is in glorious display right now. Spend a day at Rendleman Orchards with your best friends or significant other. If you happen to wear a cute flowy dress for a "spontaneous" photo shoot, we will not judge.

Well, it happened. We had our first vacation as a family of five!! This was quite the experience and I'm so thankful for all the new memories made with my little ones. In case you're wondering, the secret to a successful Florida family road trip is to drive at night...when the kiddos are sleeping. We did that both ways and it made everything so much smoother.
My in-laws have a timeshare in Destin, Florida, that is right by the beach. So we all got together for some much-needed vitamin sea. Being right by the ocean made it easy, because I could sit on the beach while Indy took a nice, long nap. Ledger ran around catching lizards and Elle played in the sand.
It was nice to wake up and not feel rushed to be anywhere by a certain time. No school drop off, no opening the store....just me and my family waking when the time feels right. That's the way life should be. I highly encourage everyone to carve a piece of time where you can be present in the moment and have some change in scenery.
You won't regret it.
XO, Lauren

In our region, our beloved summers involved Dairy Queen ice cream and movies at The Varsity Center on Carbondale's strip. Plus, they made the perfect backdrop. We appreciate these local businesses for working with us.
